Deer Point Lake is located 7 miles north of Panama City, Florida. It provides water for the city and much of Bay County. Econfina Creek, a river spanning the Florida Panhandle, ends at Deer Point Lake. The river provides the lake with most of its water.

Deer Point Lake is not only used for its water, it is also a popular recreation area. The Econfina Creek has been called "the most exciting canoe trail in the state," for good reason. It has a 24 mile long designated paddling trail. If canoers are searching for a more serene trip, Deer Point Lake is the place to be. Not only is there great scenery on the lake, but the waters are perfect for a leisurely afternoon trip.

Fishing and boating are other activities on the lake. Anglers can enjoy fly fishing for shellcracker in the Spring and reeling in trophy largemouth bass all year round. There are multiple boat ramps on the lake's shore and a fishing pier located on the west side of the dam. Two fish camps, Cherokee Landing and Tharp's Camp, call Deer Point Lake their home, as well.
